Excerpts from a longer filmed version of an illustrated talk, mainly centred on the life and background of the intriguing mixed-race, Calcutta-born photographer Julia Margaret Cameron. Researched during visits to Calcutta, Jane Richter, stumbled across interesting people and information, thereby shedding a little more light on the Indian dimension in particular. It was initially filmed to accompany an exhibition at Dimbola Museum & Galleries, her former home and workplace on the Isle of Wight (England). The full version’s first showings take place there on April 1 and 2, 2022. The exhibition is called ‘Creative Cross-Currents with India and Sri Lanka’ and is curated by Griselda Bear. It features work by contemporary artists Jeremy Bear, Sunara Begum and Dunstan Perera alongside Cameron’s own. Future private group bookings of the presentation (with live Q & A sessions) can be arranged by contacting: Jane at isleofwightguidedtours.co.uk
